When possible, Claus will put the soil type directly on the label, considering it as important as the varietal inside the bottle. "Kalkstein" meaing limestone, is what the old and young vine blend grow from for this wine. Like most of Claus' wines, Blaufränkisch Kalkstein is spontaneously fermented in stainless steel. This wine then spends 8 months in large neutral barrels.
